If I had a Canadian penny for every e-mail I received in response to last week’s posting about Jesus of Montreal, I’d have a Canadian dime by now. Here’s a sampling:

Jesus of Montreal is a brilliant film. Not at all what you would think it is (i.e., not a Charlton Heston/Mel Gibson/Easter morning kind of thing. Very provocative and intelligent. And it has won many awards from prestigious film festivals. See this movie! I despise Catholicism and most of xianty but I love this film. I also adore your website.

Thanks for the words, Paige. I also love it when people use an “x” to sub in for “Christ.” Especially as in Xtina Aguilera.

Jesus of Montreal is okay if you're Canadian, but this is America, and we can do better than that... I give you Ultrachrist! Available on DVD May 25 at www.leisuresuit.net/ultrachrist.
-- Shawn

I helped Shawn out by backing up his shameless plug with not only a hyperlink but also this week’s feature photo. I’m sure DVD sales will go berserk on May 25 thanks to moi. I’m such a saint.

I love your site... but you should know, (for the integrity of your wit) that mocking the Jesus of Montreal cover is kind of like ordering steak tartare and then asking the cook to make it rare. Jesus of Montreal is a Denys Arcand movie - he is an irreverent filmmaker from Montreal. The cover of it is funny because it is supposed to be. Most of his movies are about upsetting the Catholic Church in Quebec. Check it out - I think you will appreciate his sense of humor.

His other movies are great too! - The Decline of the American Empire and the Barbarian Invasions (which recently won an Oscar for best foreign language, I believe).

Thanks for looking out for the integrity of the site. Somebody has to. And, strangely enough, I do always order my steak tartare rare.

God bless the movies!
